Toronto Argonauts Transactions

Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club has released #30 DS Kenny Wheaton.

Commented Argos GM/Vice President, Football Operations Adam Rita, “Kenny has had a lot of success as an Argonaut and helped us win a Grey Cup in 2004.  As time moves on, the make up of our team changes and we continually strive to keep the level of competition high and put the best team on the field.  We would like to thank Kenny for his contributions on and off the field and wish him much success in the future.“

Wheaton played 97 games over six seasons with the Argonauts. He played 91 games as a defensive back before switching to safety for the second half of the 2008 season where he started six games. Wheaton’s career regular season numbers with the Argos include 408 defensive tackles, 15 interceptions for 297 yards with 1 touchdown, 7 QB sacks, 17 forced fumbles, 27 pass knockdowns, and 5 tackles for a loss. He still owns the CFL playoff record for the longest interception return at 116 yards (TD) in the East Semi-Final vs Hamilton in 2004. Wheaton. He was named an East All-Star four times (three times at DB and once at safety) and was once named a CFL All-Star at DB.
